Active and extreme tourism
Many people understand tourism as travel to the countries of the world, visiting interesting places or relaxing on the beach. But there is a completely different, active tourism, when people hike or swim on rivers, visit taiga thickets and the northern tundra, climb mountains or explore caves.
For this, no tourist organizations are needed, tourists themselves assemble a team, prepare equipment, map a route, buy plane or train tickets to get to the travel area. These people are ready to meet all the difficulties of the route - from bad weather to river rapids and mountain passes.
Tourism under control
Such extreme tourism can be completely disorganized, when people with insufficient experience are included in the group, no one checks the readiness of the group for the hike, and no one knows at all where they went and when they should return. It is in such groups that accidents occur most often.
Another thing is active sports tourism, when a group registers in its travel club, is checked by the itinerary qualification commission and prepares itinerary documents. This check guarantees the readiness of the group for the upcoming trip, in addition, such an official group must be registered with the control and rescue service of the region where the trip is taking place. The target dates for the group's departure from the route are established, and if the tourists did not telegraph the end of the hike in time, the KSS proceeds to search, and, if necessary, to rescue operations.
After the end of the trip, the group leader prepares a report, submits it to the ICC, which issued the group for the route, and receives official certificates for all participants confirming the receipt of tourist experience. Based on the totality of these certificates, sports categories are drawn up. The minimum third category is given after participating in the simplest campaign, and a person receives the title of master of sports after being the head of several especially difficult campaigns.
Tourism is different
The rules for amateur trips and travels apply to all types of extreme tourism: hiking, mountain, skiing, water, cycling, auto-moto and speleotourism. These active types of tourism are sometimes combined with each other: for example, water tourists, in order to reach the river, go through a real hiking route.

Each species has its own characteristics, its own difficulties and its own rules. A trip to a cave is not at all like a rafting down the river. Mountain tourism is sometimes confused with mountaineering, but they have different goals: a climber climbs to the top, and a tourist walks forward through mountain passes.

If you do not have familiar tourists, but you want to hike, go to the camp site. This is also active tourism, in Russia it is quite developed. Unprepared people come to the camp site, live at the camp site for several days and undergo training, and then go on a simple hike. It can be rafting on a simple river or lake, an easy walk in the mountains or several crossings on skis. This will give you a sea of unforgettable impressions and good friends.

Both in Russia and abroad there is such a service as rafting down the river on inflatable rafts. This is usually a one-day route, and quite difficult. The raft is a very stable and safe vessel, so nothing threatens the lives of tourists, besides, experienced sports instructors lead the boat. But tourist life is not organized at the same time, so it is rather a short pleasure than real tourism.

Active tourism is most reminiscent of the old Russian hiking traditions and is similar to ecotourism in terms of environmental preservation. Unlike the latter, it implies the active involvement of tourists. There are no service personnel in the group, all tourists, to the best of their ability, participate in the transfer of cargo and cooking. He studies nature and learns methods of survival in the terrain on which the hike is going. Another difference between active tourism and ecotourism is that active tourism is moving around the area, and not staying in one place.

Active tourism does not require isolation from other people and the absence of large settlements, that is, it is possible in cities as well. A kind of active tourism is sports tourism, in which hiking is categorized by difficulty level, competitions are held, and tourists receive sports categories. The second type is adventure tourism, when a rope course is held in nature or participants pass additional artificial obstacles along the route.

Ecotourism is a recreation that does not disturb (and even restores) the environment. It is carried out in small groups in an area minimally exposed to human impact. Such territories are areas where a person lives in harmony with nature (for example, small villages in which residents are engaged in traditional crafts, settlements of small ethnic groups). The main principle is not to disturb the nature and traditional way of life of the local population. Sometimes ecotourism is associated with additional environmental actions, for example, cleaning the area from garbage during a weekend hike. Ecotourism brings benefits, allowing the local population to earn on their traditional way of life and preserving the territory from destruction by industry in the case when it (ecotourism) is more profitable than the deployment of industries on it. To practice ecotourism, you do not need to have tourism skills, there are experienced tourists in the group who do various jobs. There is a cognitive component in ecotourism. For example, if in active tourism a vacationer eats ethnic dishes prepared by local residents, then the ecotourist learns to cook them. Ecotourism is often organized as voluntary assistance to tourists on scientific expeditions.
